Regardless of the current political climate, if you’re building a recruiting team, you need to focus on diversity.
Why?
There’s no such thing as two identical recruiters. There’s also no such thing as a strong recruiting team that’s homogeneous. Each recruiter comes with unique experience (in-house vs agency, global vs national, industry experience, executive, military, high-volume, HR background vs operations background, etc.) and their networks, the pools they recruit from, will usually reflect that.
Recruiters also have different passions.
Some are more people focused. They’re great at seeing what’s under the surface, and advocating for the candidate.
Others are more data focused. They’ll focus on the KPI’s; making sure there’s measurable impact to support the team’s efforts.
A diverse team of recruiters helps you position yourself well as an employer. When you have a need, you’ll want to attract the largest number of people possible. A diverse recruiting team made up of people from varied backgrounds, genders, races, ethnicities, etc., helps you do that.
When building your team, avoid going after talent that you have a ton in common with.
Ask yourself:
✔️What am I missing?
✔️What are the current challenges?
✔️Where is the team/department/company headed?
✔️How will this role solve our big picture problems?
Remember, your team already has you.
Happy hiring!
